Teach Them Your Talents

Ladies we are all talented at different things. Collectively, we are talented at academics, cooking, writing, sewing, event-planning, gardening, singing, cleaning, sports, organizing, public speaking, and the list goes on and on. The problem is we don’t always think to share these wonderful skills and talents with our children! What a waste! If you are excellent at cleaning, why not show your children how to do it also? Your goal is not to limit them to a cleaning career but cleaning is a skill that if learned, yields positive health benefits. Most people need a clean environment to function in order to get things done. Cleanliness or lack thereof, affects our moods so this is an essential skill that surprisingly, many people lack.

This makes me think of something that is slightly off course but certainly worth saying. Stop doing EVERYTHING for your kids. They can do a lot more than you think they can. By age 3, start letting them try to put on their own socks and brush their teeth with your support and supervision of course.

Lastly, Let me share with you one of the things I do with my kids. I’m a member of a public speaking group so I figured, why not turn my kids into little public speakers? I started by giving my kids bookmarks with lengthy passages on them and I had each one of them read the passage. We worked on vocal variety, using passion while speaking, showing their personality while speaking and other characteristics of a good speaker. This will give them an edge in life since public speaking is one of the top fears that people have.
