Don’t Be Afraid To Speak Up!

Hello Friends!

I want to encourage you all today to start speaking up more. I’ve been witness to countless times when people listen in on instructions or details being provided to them then when the facilitator (their work manager, a peer, their doctor/lawyer, whomever…) asks them if they understand, they nod and pretend they do understand.

I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to do this to yourself! Most of the time, a fear of looking incompetent or incapable is the culprit that holds us back from asking for clarification or for more details to help us understand.

More often than not, half of the people surrounding you did not understand either or they need additional information to help them understand too.

I want to challenge you all to be more confident. Be the brave soul that is willing to speak up on behalf of the group. Remember, half of the group is experiencing that same fear of speaking up, but someone has to do it!

What happens at work, for example, when you don’t speak up is, you get back to your desk and you waste time seeking answers to your questions that you could have asked when you had the opportunity. No one will think you are silly for speaking up and asking questions. Your manager will actually appreciate it!

It saves everyone a lot of time and effort when we move past our fears and speak up! You become more confident and you stand out.

Go for it…Speak Up! Your local Toastmasters public speaking group can also help you with overcoming fear off speaking up.

Until next time…
